Cretan Taste Awards: An ode to the authentic Cretan cuisine


A brand new series of awards that highlight and reward local authentic, innovative and high quality cretan products, produced with dedication, passion and knowledge, contributing in the development of the region’s economy, are about to be organized at the end of October in Crete.

Konstantinos Lazarakis, Master of Wine, Joel Castanyé, chef & co-owner of La Boscana restaurant in Spain, and JP Mc Mahon, chef-owner of Michelin starred Aniar restaurant in Ireland, are among the jury members of the Cretan Taste Awards


The awards highlight the people, the places and the companies that operate with an emphasis on innovation, tradition, craftsmanship, seasonality and sustainable production methods that create the high quality taste for which Crete is known worldwide. Seven sections (Best in Foodservice Sector, Best Places, Best Actions & Initiatives, Best Producers, Best Products, Best Drinks, Best Practices), with different award categories each, are going to highlight the best, offering them a stamp of quality and the necessary reputation, which will lead gastronomy businesses to the "next day”.

A large panel of professional taste-experts, chefs, sommeliers, olive oil exprerts, carefully selected based on their experience in tasting, will take part at the tasting procedure and decide for the final results. The jury members include many Head-Sommeliers & Chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants such as Jean Charles Metayer, Alexandros Tsiotinis, JP Mac Mahon (Ireland), Joel Castanyé, chef & co-owner of La Boscana restaurant (Spain), Irini Tzortzoglou (Winner ff MasterChef UK, author, olive Oil Sommelier), Konstantinos Lazarakis, Master of Wine, Aris Chatziantoniou, Metaxa International Brand Ambassador etc.


The awards ceremony is scheduled for the end of October in Crete (Heraklion city) and will be adapted to the safety measures of that period. The Awards are being organised by the Municipality of Heraklion and Boussias Communications, the largest award company in Greece and Cyprus.
